For the purpose of coordination and regulation of blood transfusion services in Lagos State, Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC) was established with the law No. 10 in 2004 and given the mandate to accredit and regulate both public and private blood banks, to ensure safety of blood.
It is therefore mandatory for any blood bank that wishes to operate in Lagos State, to register and get accredited with LSBTC.
To this end every registered blood bank must screen every unit of blood collected at any of the eight (8) screening centers established by the Lagos State Government.
