The Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), in partnership with Premier Health Systems (PHS) Consult, hosted a one-day training workshop aimed at enhancing standards in the beauty and wellness industry.
The Executive Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Abiola Idowu, in her opening remarks, expressed her pleasure in welcoming all participants, noting their commitment to excellence and dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety and care for their clients.
She informed that HEFAMAA was established in March 2006 under the health sector reform law for monitoring both private and public health facilities in Lagos State to ensure their registration and future accreditation.
She noted that the regulatory body is committed to ensuring safe healthcare delivery across all sectors, with a focus on the critical work of healthcare professionals.
The beauty and wellness industry has seen tremendous growth over the past decade, bringing a corresponding responsibility to uphold high standards of practice.
Whether aestheticians, cosmetologists, or other professionals, their work directly impacts clients’ health and well-being. Adherence to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines is essential.
Dr. Toni Adeyemi, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Health, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of protecting diagnostic patients and ensuring they receive quality care in a safe environment.
She commended the participants for investing in their personal and business growth, noting that the workshop marked the beginning of greater achievements for their businesses.
The SSA expressed her hope that the workshop would inspire new ideas, connections, and networking opportunities for the participants, and foster government collaboration to ensure clients have access to excellent cosmetological care.
The workshop was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain high standards. Topics covered included Regulatory Guidelines in Aesthetic Medicine presented by the Director, Inspectorate Department, HEFAMAA, Dr. Olayinka Daniel; Infection Prevention and Control, and Waste Management in Aesthetic Settings presented by Dr. Olorunfemi Olonire as well as topic on Ensuring Safety and Informed Consent in Aesthetic Medicine presented by a Professor of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Idowu Fadeyibi. There was also Panel discussion with the participants being the Executive Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Adekanbi Akinsiku, Dr. Mary Charles, Dr. Veronica Oguike and Mrs. Moji Adeleye (representing MD LAWMA).
